Discover Wonder through Painting an Organic Mandala
A gentle, step-by-step online painting experience, creating alongside me from the first circle to the final embellishments.
Paint along with me in this gentle video course.
-
You can follow my process without having to copy my design.
-
No special drawing equipment is needed.
-
I'll show you how to create and divide your circle using simple things you probably already have at home - a dinner plate and ruler.
-
Inspire others by contributing a photo of your painting to my online Gallery, if you wish. (Optional)
There is something wonderful about looking closely at the shapes found in nature and discovering how they can inspire our own creativity.
In this course, I invite you to paint alongside me as we create an organic mandala inspired by the shapes of leaves.
-
There is no need for special drawing equipment or complicated tools. We begin simply, using a dinner plate to draw our circle and a ruler to divide it into eight sections. I then show you some different leaves and how I choose shapes that will work within the design.
-
From there, I guide you through drawing the first layer of eight leaf shapes, followed by a second layer using a different, wider leaf.
-
Then we begin to paint using whatever paints you have available.
-
You will see my hands working on the painting as I explain and demonstrate in watercolours what I am doing along the way. You can pause whenever you need to, work at your own pace, and paint alongside me.
And you don't need to copy my painting.
-
I use my own colours and ideas as an example, but this is your design. Your leaves can be any colours that appeal to you. Your background can take you somewhere completely different.
-
And the final embellishments are an opportunity to add your own personality, imagination and sense of wonder.
-
Along the way, we'll also pause for a little break - a chance to stand up, stretch your legs and return refreshed before completing the background and final details. There is no-one to rush you.
Why create an organic mandala?
-
Sometimes it is simply lovely to become absorbed in making something.
-
The repeating shapes and gentle rhythm of drawing and painting can give us a reason to slow down and focus our attention on what is immediately in front of us.
-
There is no need to make your painting look realistic and no need for it to look like mine. The leaves are simply our starting point.
-
From there, you are free to explore colour, pattern, imagination and your own creative choices.
By the end of the course, you will have created an organic mandala that began with nature but has become uniquely yours.
